Vintage Michigan Canvasback Duck Decoy

Now, who the heck drills a hole through the neck of a nice decoy.  The hole drilled horizontally through the back of the neck of this decoy was done long ago, possibly shortly after it was made.  There might have been a functional reason but I am not aware of one.  It doesn't affect the stability or strength of the neck and I have resisted the urge to fill it with a dowel.  This bird is obviously a Michigan decoy strongly influenced by the Schmidt brothers of Centerline.  Besides the hole in its neck, it has a weighted keel, glass eyes, and with a rasped surface before it was painted.  Areas of paint have now been lost and it was that way when I acquired it.  Measures 17 1/8" long and is a good looking bird.
