Tested and works as it should. Infrared light is the medium, does not interfere with your digital or analog equipment. The fourth photo shows the sensor that is to be installed between the rails, see the ninth photo also. It is easy to install.
As sold, it's good to go for one location.
With a four-gang rotary switch it can measure at several different locations on your layout. If you choose to go with multiple locations on your layout, the switch can be found at an electronics supply store.
The necessary additional sensor assembles are included in this purchase.
A generous supply of spare parts is also included as a bonus. The master console measures 10.25 x 6 x 3 inches. Seven pages of detailed instructions are included. A super generous supply of 3M ultra-reflective tape is also included in this package. eBay's limit of twelve photos per posting allows me space to post five only of the instruction pages.
