American Microphone Company Model D9AT
Dynamic Microphone
, nicknamed "The Skyscraper" from the late 30's to '40's. It's a rare mic in collector's circles, and even more rare to find them in great
working
condition...this one
tests with rich full-ranging audio and excellent output gain from its
TWO
new dynamic pickup elements
. The ribs are overall in good shape except or a couple of minor rib warps on the lower right back section. The yoke and two side thumb screws are reproduced, and the mic has no loose or rattling internals. The connector port is a standard 3 pin male XLR,
includes a new 15 foot XLR cable and a matching aluminum desk stand
with overall height 14".

"The American D9AT was an early directive microphone, from 1938. It had two dynamic elements, which created a more sensitive microphone with stronger output and therefore produced a better signal. It was also rugged for public address use, immune to weather conditions and very useful for in-studio broadcasts, because of its wide dynamic range. The American company advertised the D9AT as the mic with 30% more gain than others. The vertical Art Deco design resembles the huge, stylish skyscrapers of the Thirties that dominated the skyline of New York and other major U.S. cities. In many regards, the 'look' of the American Company microphones was often way ahead of the competition."
